By the end of Year 3 English, children should know how to communicate and write expressively, use language imaginatively and read and write independently. Students will build the foundational English skills to implement in their English NAPLAN and future education, including essay writing for the HSC.
Our opportunity classes are perfect for students with high academic potential. They will learn alongside a group of students with a similar ability to secure a coveted Selected School placement. Our year 3 opportunity classes focus on multiple choice practice and weekly tests to prepare for the opportunity class test.
Students can start their studies after successfully enrolling in year 3 English. They will review the previous week’s lesson at the start of each lesson and recap the materials at the end of the class to ensure they understand all concepts taught for their upcoming NAPLAN.
English year 3 has four terms, including:
- Term 1 — To write compelling descriptions, students will increase their vocabulary and learn new language techniques to describe people, places and things.
- Term 2 — Students will develop creative writing skills by learning narrative structure and how to capture the characters and setting through extended creative pieces.
- Term 3 — With a focus on perspective, students will learn how to engage the point of view in persuasive writing. They will practise reading and comprehension and compose their own persuasive pieces.
- Term 4 — Students will learn to reflect on their experiences and perspectives by reading stories. They will comprehensively engage with a text and write imaginatively about their own experiences and characters’ experiences in stories.
