Lesson 1: Students learn how to categorise texts according to their purpose, and learn the key features of an informative text.
Lesson 2: Students learn about the key features of a persuasive text, and learn how to structure and compose their own.
Lesson 3: Students learn about persuasive techniques and how to create effective presentations and features.
Lesson 4: Students focus on descriptive writing, practicing both reading comprehension and using sensory imagery in their own creative writing.
Lesson 5: Students learn how to correctly use dialogue in their imaginative writing.
Lesson 6: Students consider a range of text types and how to identify what makes a "good" or a "bad" example of each one.
Lesson 7: Students learn about narrative structure and complex sentences.
Lesson 8: Students learn about how to structure and compose a discussion.
Lesson 9: Students learn about recounts and how to add description and detail to their own writing.

Dymocks Term 2 Lesson Plan
Lesson 1: Students learn about types of visual texts and their purpose, and practice using a range of vocabulary words to write about texts' ideas.
Lesson 2: Students learn about how colour and symbolism can be used as visual techniques, and practice supporting their written responses with examples from a text.
Lesson 3: Students learn about the visual techniques of salience, framing and symbolism.
Lesson 4: Students do a close focus on ads and practice writing detailed responses supported by evidence from a visual text.
Lesson 5: Students study a picture book and complete both comprehension and analysis questions.
Lesson 6: Students study a second picture book and complete both comprehension and analysis questions, with a focus on how the text uses colour and symbolism.
Lesson 7: Students learn about informative visual texts and practice explaining what makes a visual text effective.
Lesson 8: Students examine a short film, practicing both their comprehension as well as their ability to analyse both images and sound.
Lesson 9: Students complete a final exam requiring them to write about two new unseen texts as well as creating their own effective visual text.

Dymocks Term 3 Lesson Plan
Lesson 1: Students are introduced to types of stories and begin to learn strategies for making inferences and reading comprehension.
Lesson 2: Students complete a reading comprehension focus based around interpreting characters. They learn how to support their ideas with examples from a text.
Lesson 3: Students practice writing descriptively about characters using adjectives, similes and metaphors, and learn how to correctly structure dialogue.
Lesson 4: Students completing a reading comprehension focus based around setting. They learn how to support their ideas with examples from a text.
Lesson 5: Students learn how to write descriptively about setting with a focus on sensory imagery, figurative language and complex sentences.
Lesson 6: Students complete a reading comprehension focus centered around the structure of a narrative and how a complication is used in a story.
Lesson 7: Students practice writing their own complete narrative that includes all key structural features.
Lesson 8: Students learn about fables and how to interpret the message and meaning of a story.
Lesson 9: Students complete their final exam: a reading exam and a descriptive writing task.

Dymocks Term 4 Lesson Plan
Lesson 1: Students learn about what poetry is, and how stress, rhyme and rhythm are used in poetry.
Lesson 2: Students learn about how to make inferences, and how to correctly use apostrophes and possessive adjectives.
Lesson 3: Students learn about four different types of rhyme used in poetry.
Lesson 4: Students continue to practice making inferences, and learn about how to use commas, noun groups and verb groups.
Lesson 5: Students learn about three poetic devices: repetition, alliteration and onomatopoeia.
Lesson 6: Students learn about what limericks are and practice both reading and writing limericks.
Lesson 7: Students learn about how to correctly use quotation marks, colons and semicolons.
Lesson 8: Students learn about what diamante poems are, and develop their vocabulary by writing them. They also learn what a haiku is and practice both reading and writing them.
Lesson 9: Students learn about how to use imagery effectively in their creative writing to create descriptions.
