Week 1: Students learn about the meaning of points of view. They consider ways they can express their own opinions through use of basic sentence structures.
Week 2: Students explore spoken mediums of text and consider the points of view expressed through these platforms by role-playing. They also learn new meanings of vocabulary words.
Week 3: Students explore written mediums of text and consider the points of view expressed through these platforms by class discussions and comprehension. They also practise their spelling.
Week 4: Students are introduced to facts and think about the ways in which these may differ from opinions or points of view. They also enhance their learning by reviewing grammatical skills.
Week 5: Students review their learning on points of view and engage in debates and class discussions. They are also given an optional extension written task which tests their understanding on the topic.
Week 6: Students are introduced to persuasive writing and explore the purpose behind these texts. They consider high modality language and how it can make an effective persuasive text which they practise themselves.
Week 7: Students explore the range of persuasive writing and break down the structure. They are introduced to the initial brainstorming phase of writing an exposition.
Week 8: Students consider a topic for an exposition and run through writing an introduction. They learn the techniques behind writing an effective opening.
Week 9: Students are introduced to writing a body paragraph of an exposition by breaking down the OREO structure. They review previous knowledge by adding in opinions and facts.
Week 10: Students learn to place everything together by considering effective conclusions and reviewing the content learned in previous lessons. They are also given an optional extension written task to complete based on writing an exposition themselves.
