Year 4 Maths is the second year of stage two. By the end of year 4, students should be confident in using strategies to solve problems, using technology to investigate mathematical concepts and check solutions. They should be confidently using multiplication and division, fractions and money, as well as having an have an understanding of measurement including depth, weight and capacity, units of time. Students should understand basic graphing techniques.

They will also learn basic graphing techniques. These skills are essential for their success in their maths NAPLAN.
Our opportunity classes are ideal for students with high academic potential. They will learn in a group environment with students of similar ability to help them secure a coveted Selected School placement. Our year 4 opportunity classes focus on multiple choice practice and weekly tests to prepare for the opportunity class test.
Students can commence their studies after successfully enrolling in year 4 maths. They will review the previous week’s lesson at the start of each lesson and recap the concepts they’ve learned at the end to increase their retention to succeed in their NAPLAN.
Math year 4 has four terms, including:
- Term 1 — Students will study whole numbers, addition and subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals.
- Term 2 — Students will learn patterns and number sequences, odd and even numbers properties, algebra word problems, lengths, perimeter, area, volume and capacity.
- Term 3 — Our students will explore mass, time and 3D and 2D shapes, including symmetry.
- Term 4 — Students will study angles, position, data and chance.
Each term has nine weekly lessons, which will introduce students to mathematical concepts, allow them to practise their skills, demonstrate their knowledge and review the end of the lesson.
