Year 10 English is crucial to preparing students when they decide which level of English they can undertake for their HSC. Students will learn how to develop the analytical, literacy and communicative skills to create and craft responses depending on their purpose, audience and context.
Once successfully enrolled in our year 10 English course, students can commence their studies immediately. Students will begin each lesson with language, memory and cognitive skill exercises and end each lesson with homework and study overview to ensure they retain the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in their studies.
Our English year 10 course has four terms:
- Term 1 — The first term will discuss Shakespeare’s Macbeth in detail for textual analysis and the basis of essay writing. Students will create persuasive and analytical pieces in line with their future senior assessment tasks.
- Term 2 — Students will refine their skills in reading comprehension, analysing texts and writing, from short-answer to long-form essays. They will also implement advanced techniques in their creative writing.
- Term 3 — In this term, students will consider the historical context when understanding and analysing a text. They will implement context effectively in their writing to add further depth to their work.
- Term 4 — Students will explore prescribed texts addressing senior themes and concepts. They will learn more about textual analysis, how to refine their analytical writing skills and a range of forms necessary for advanced English to excel in their HSC exam.
Each term will end with a final assessment where students can review their skills and receive valued feedback from their tutors on areas to improve.
