By the end of the year with us, students will have mastered a range of skills including hypothesis testing, predictions, problem solving, conducting investigations, analysing data, in addition to having covered content from the core Stage 5 syllabus areas of the Chemical World, the Physical World, the Living World and Earth & Space. They will also have been introduced to advanced concepts and skills that both deepen their scientific understanding and aptitude, and prepare them to excel in their future science study.

After successfully enrolling in our year 9 science program, students can commence their studies. They will complete a quiz at the start of each lesson to review previous content and complete a series of recap questions at the end of each lesson to ensure they understand the concepts.

Year 9 science has four terms, including:

• Term 1 — The Physical World: Students study the concepts of energy, electricity and magnetism. Through this, they gain an understanding of core aspects of both the physical world and modern technology. They also develop foundational skills of physics study including qualitative and quantitative analysis of physical systems, conducting scientific experiments and contextualising the societal impact and significance of scientific ideas and phenomena.

• Term 2 — The Living World: Students study foundational concepts of biology, including the interaction of life with its environment, ecosystems and natural selection. Through this study, they develop a core understanding of the living world that helps them to understand the natural world and prepare them for future study in biology.

• Term 3 — Earth and Space: Students study astronomical models of the solar system and universe, along with the geological structure and forces that shape the Earth. Through this, students deepen their understanding of the natural world and prepare for future study across a range of scientific disciplines.
• Term 4 — The Chemical World: Students study fundamental concepts of chemistry, including the structure of atoms, the periodic table and chemical bonding. Through this study, they develop the essential knowledge and skills necessary to analyse chemical systems in a range of practical contexts as well as in their future studies.
