Dymocks Term 1
In this unit, students explore the different ways Australia has been portrayed in poetry and understand what makes a poem ‘uniquely Australian.’ They learn to analyse poetic techniques and write extended responses comparing conflicting perspectives about Australian identity. Students also consider the idea of rhetoric and persuasive writing. They will learn how to use techniques to make their own work engaging and convince readers of their point of view. Dymocks Term 2
Students will explore historical context, representation and perspectives. They will also evaluate the way that authors integrate historical information into their work with a close focus on ‘war writing.’ They will develop their skills in analytical writing including composing full essays. Dymocks Term 3
Introduction to Shakespearean Literature: Students complete a close study of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, learning how to read and analyse a dramatic text as well as focusing on how texts explore complex themes and values. They also consider how these themes have been visualised in film. Students practice writing analytically including planning and structuring essay responses. View the lesson plan

Dymocks Term 4
This term, students investigate how intercultural experiences shape the way we view the world and the people around us. They consider how the core theme of “belonging” is explored in a variety of texts and the relationship of the individual to their society.
