Choosing Your University Courses – Key Dates and Things To Know

calendar with red push pin

Hi Year 12! With everything you’ve got on your plate already, spending hours trawling through random websites trying to organise your calendar is probably the last thing you need 😌 So here’s a summary of some important dates to remember for when choosing your university courses:

19 September

Applications for the School Recommendation Scheme (SRS) close. The deadline to change your preferences for the SRS close on 3 November, and offers are released on 11 November.

What is the SRS? The SRS offers early admission to university while you’re still in Year 12 by considering criteria outside your ATAR, like your Year 11 studies and your school’s rating of your skills. Here is a guide for how to apply and the requirements involved: Applying for SRS.

30 September

The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) early- bird applications close.

What is the UAC ‘early bird’ discount? If you submit your UAC application by midnight, you only need to pay $73 instead of $200. You can still apply to UAC after this date but it costs more — and because you can change your degree preferences even after you’ve submitted your application, there is really no reason not to apply as soon as you can 🤑

22 November

The Educational Access Schemes program (EAS) applications close for December Round 2 offers.

What is the EAS? The EAS is an access scheme that aids students with educational disadvantages. Here is an outline of the requirements and how to apply: EAS Guide.

15 December

ATARs are released.

16 December

The opportunity to change your course preferences for UAC December Round 2 offers close. You must change your UAC preferences by midnight for them to be considered in this round of university offers, which is the first main round for Year 12 students. The offers will then be released on 22 December.

What are your UAC preferences? Using your UAC application number and pin, you can choose up to five course preferences, which you can change at any time until 16 December for it to be considered in the first main round of university offers for Year 12s. You will be offered the first preference that your selection rank allows.

What is a UAC offer? UAC offers are offers from universities to have a place in one of their courses. The offers are released in several rounds across the year, and you will receive only one offer per round. Because your ATAR is released in December, this means that the December Round 2 and January Round 1 offers are the most important for you to remember.

5 January

If you find you’ve changed your mind about course preferences after 16 December, don’t worry! The deadline for changing your course preferences for January Round 1 university offers is 5 January. These offers will then be released on January 12.
